According to this WPA public information poster, a good school lunch should consist of "one hot dish (meat and vegetables) or sandwich, fruit and milk". The Works Progress Administration was a American work program, government sponsored, which promoted the American way of life during the 1930s and 1940s, The New Deal, following the Great Depression of the early thirties. The FAP (Federal Art Project) was responsible for visually translating the government ideology in the form of posters, giving work to hunderds of artists and producing a huge volume of poster art over the period of 1935-1943. In total, over 30,000 designs were produced by some 500 artists, with millions of posters printed and distributed around the states.
